🦋 Introducción (bilingüe)

When we begin to support a child with autism or additional needs, we often feel lost. Where do I start? What can I do when challenging behaviour happens? How can I support my child without punishment?

At Calm Steps, we believe change begins with understanding, connection, and calm steps. That’s why today we share with you a simple guide based on ABA principles: the CARP steps, created to support you with love.

🌟 The CARP Steps

C – Connect

Before correcting, we connect. Make eye contact, come down to their level, offer your presence without pressure. A child who feels seen and safe is more ready to listen.

A – Anticipate

Prevention is key. Use visuals, schedules or clear words to anticipate what’s coming. Gentle warnings help reduce anxiety and prevent challenging behaviour.

R –Regulate

Instead of saying “no”, offer an alternative. Redirecting means guiding without punishment. For example: “We don’t jump on the sofa, but we can jump on the floor.”

P – Bring Positive Reinforcement

When your child does something positive, celebrate it! Reinforcement is recognition. A “well done!”, a smile or a hug can encourage repetition of that behaviour.

🌈 Closing: Love and Calm Steps

You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be present, with intention and love. The CARB steps are a guide, not a rigid rule. Every family finds their rhythm.
